As South Africa turn to spin, it's worth noting that Steve Smith averages 64 in Test cricket against the twirlers. 40% of his almost 4,100 runs against spin have come through the mid-wicket and mid-on region (see chart below). And as if to prove a point, that is where Keshav Maharaj is dispatched.

Lungi Ngidi has been poor. It's a bit of a pet hate of mine that he has a sweeper on both sides. He hasn't been able to create any pressure.

He's struggled with any rhythm in this game.
