There's that sharp movement again from Jansen, firing into Smith's pads from around the wicket.

A huge appeal, but the umpire is unmoved and Temba Bavuma isn't convinced into a review.

That didn't miss by much from Kagiso Rabada, it was right over the middle peg.

  • Aus 82-4published at 27 overs

The sun is just starting to emerge over Lord's as Kagiso Rabada gets one to nip back sharply to Beau Webster and somehow, the ball whistles over the stumps.

A hostile start for Webster from the South Africa quicks.

Regarding James' question (13:00), surely the West Indies quartet of Joel Garner (6'8), Michael Holding (6'4), Andy Roberts (6'2) and Colin Croft (6'5) must be up there. You can even add in Clive Lloyd (6'5).

Australia are depending on Steve Smith to bat long and put a score on the board that is credible.

  • Aus 78-4published at 26 overs

Another maiden for Marco Jansen, who strikes Steve Smith in the midriff with a short ball.

Smith doesn't flinch. He has 37, and Beau Webster is yet to get off the mark.

That was too much dessert from Kagiso Rabada, he gave that extra helping of ice cream and Steve Smith said, 'Thank you very much'.

  • Aus 78-4published at 25 overs

    Hello!

A costly over from Kagiso Rabada, which has been a rarity today - this one concedes 11, when his previous six only conceded nine.

Two boundaries to Steve Smith as Rabada offers too much width, before he drives down the ground for three.

A wicket maiden for Marco Jansen.

It was a terrific session for South Africa and they earned it. They were well on target with the ball.

Anyway, the players are back in the middle after a delightful Lord's lunch, no doubt.

The aforementioned Beau Webster, who is very tall, is the new batter and he has four balls left from Marco Jansen - who we have established is also very tall.

(I haven't done a cricket live text since March, by the way. I'm sure this insight has been sorely missed.)

    Great question.

Will see if we can get Andy Zaltzman on the case.

Is this the tallest Test Match ever? We have the 6'9 Marco Jansen, Cameron Green at 6'6 and Beau Webster at 6'4. Absolute giants.

But while Australia are in a spot of bother, of course Steve Smith is still there.

I think we've seen this one before.

Jansen struck again with the last ball before lunch, an absolute gift with Travis Head strangled down the leg side but it's a cracker of a catch from Kyle Verreynne.

Marnus Labuschagne was promoted to open with Khawaja and did well to survive the threat of Rabada before he was caught behind off Marco Jansen for 17 from 56 balls.

    Bazball, it was not.

Rabada has figures of 2-9 from his six overs, by the way. Four maidens in there, too.

    Silly.

Still, it's been a cracking start for South Africa after they won the toss and chose to bowl first.

It's a cloudy day at Lord's, and Kagiso Rabada got to work immediately with a delightful burst with the new ball.

Usman Khawaja fell for a painful 20-ball duck and Cameron Green nicked behind for four to leave Australia 16-2 after seven overs.

    Cheers, Elizabeth.

I think we can all agree that's a well-earned break, considering she's had to watch Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne bat for the best part of two hours.

Speaking of lunch, I'm absolutely famished, so here's Ffion Wynne to take you through the break and the second session.
