A rooster is sort of like an alpha. Picture a cockerel, strutting around the yard, chest puffed out, hens all a-gaggle. That’s a rooster, that’s Rabada.

Think Konstas is unlucky to miss out on the final. He played remarkably well against India six months ago and would have lit up this final.

I wonder whether that was a good bouncer. He has bowled well, Jansen. If they get one more before lunch, they are are right in this!

Marco Jansen breaks the partnership from around the wicket, with Marnus Labuschagne caught behind by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

It's a little nick off the edge of his bat and he trudges off.

Marnus' Labuschagne's average interception point so far is 1.7m from his stumps, the latest he's ever recorded in a Test in England. Super cautious stuff

@JacobVineet on X: Don't think Australia are far enough from finding Khawaja's opening partner as they might be nearer to a time when they start to find a replacement for Khawaja himself!

Three overs in and Wiaan Mulder is yet to concede a run.

After his lbw scare, Marnus Labuschagne finishes the over in much more solid fashion, shouldering arms a couple of times and playing two nice defensive shots.

There's a lot of enthusiasm from South Africa about a possible lbw against Marnus Labuschagne as he goes to leave one.

It looked a bit high from Wiaan Mulder and Temba Bavuma isn't tempted to send it upstairs. Replays confirm he made a good decision - the ball was climbing over the stumps.

That's a much better shot than his previous boundary! A solid drive and Steve Smith denies Lungi Ngidi a maiden with a four through cover to finish the over.

Loving the match. But with the weather being what it is this week. What happens if it is a draw?

    Tom in Billingshurst

Hello Tom. If the match is drawn, tied, or abandoned, the two sides will share the mace. I don't know how they'll share it. One team getting the stick and the other the ball would be the sensible option but I'd rather watch someone slice it lengthways.

A lively start to the second half of this session.

Steve Smith flicks Lungi Ngidi's opener fine for four and he sneaks another off the penultimate delivery, this one more aerially between the keeper and leg slip. A touch of fortune there.
