The simple answer is yes, if Tuchel's quotes are anything to go by, that is.

Tuchel recently insisted it would be a "fight for every position", adding there was "no exception" for goalkeepers.

The England boss went on to say: "He [Pickford] is doing everything to keep his place because he feels that Dean stepped up and found another gear. Dean got a vital title for Palace and he was a big figure.

"This helped his confidence a lot. Then we have the very young James Trafford who played a fantastic, record-breaking campaign with Burnley and got clean sheets. Hopefully he can prove himself in the Premier League next season - and then the race is on."

With just four international camps remaining before the World Cup next summer, Tuchel must implement his ideas and style of play imminently.

    Dean Henderson was in goal last night as Thomas Tuchel started him ahead of number one Jordan Pickford.

    Henderson, who failed to impress in the game, has the lowest save percentage of the goalkeepers in camp with 69.4% across all competitions in the 2024-25 season.

    Everton's Pickford has 73.4%, but is not the highest percentage, that belongs to James Trafford.

    Trafford, whose percentage is 84.5%, had an impressive campaign with Burnley in the Championship and reportedly has interest from Newcastle.

    Trafford, 22, is the youngest of the keeper options.

    Tuchel has shown that he's generally relying on experience. Calling up players like Henderson and Toney shows that he's not really bothered about form or bringing through young players. That's going to lead to complacency. Players aren't putting in everything because they're not worried about being replaced.

    The England Under-21 side are training today at their training base just 20 minutes outside of Bratislava, before their European Championship campaign begins against the Czech Republic on Thursday.

    Lee Carsley's side are the defending champions and the Young Lions are not hiding from the fact that they want to win the competition again.

    Twenty two of the squad are out training. Jack Hinshelwood is not here for personal reasons but will be back tomorrow.

    I think there’s a danger already emerging that the expectation for Thomas Tuchel to produce because he's not English is far greater than it would be if he were. We're four games in, Tuchel has been far more experimental than Southgate ever was and is rightly using these games to gauge the players available to him. Yes, the last two performances and results were poor, but I'm sure we'll start to see a more settled squad and much improved performances as time progresses. Don't panic, give the bloke a chance, it's not as if we're flush with top drawer English managers, is it?

    Stop the panic, Senegal are a good side, it's no great shock to lose to them, especially with tired players, huge amount of changes and lots of first-team players missing. The hysterics need to stop. All teams lose games, it's called sport.

    Let's not have one of these negative feelings again towards this national side.

    Look at the back four. We had Kyle Walker, who made the mistake, who is very experienced and the next three along the line were very inexperienced.

    The intensity changed when England made the substitutions and we had all the attacking players on.

    The way they dropped off, I feel they were a little bit afraid. That is the danger, that is the worry.

    People are forgetting that Senegal have some very good players (Mendy, Gueye, Ndiaye, Sarr, Jackson). At the end of the season, a friendly with nothing at stake and 10 changes after Andorra, the result is no surprise. England have work to do but there's a lot of wasted energy making a big deal of this. Senegal are a decent side.

    Yes, a debatable handball decision went against England in the build-up to what Jude Bellingham believed was an equaliser for 2-2.

    And he rather summed up the England frustration in the way he vented his anger at one of the assistant referees on the final whistle, kicked out at a cool-box, and had to be calmed by Harry Kane.

    But Senegal showed themselves to be a good team. One that has lost only twice in now 28 matches, and one of them was on penalties at the last Africa Cup of Nations. It was no end-of-season performance from them.

    Yes, England are in pole position where it matters, in the World Cup qualifying group. But they do have the trickiest matches still to come; in Serbia in September and they round off the campaign in Albania in November.

    But even if they do go on to top this group and so qualify automatically for USA, Mexico & Canada, the same concerns will be there as existed under Gareth Southgate - in that when England come up against the very best opponents, are they going to be good enough to go all the way and take that one final winning step they weren't able to make under Southgate?

    Ultimately that is what Thomas Tuchel was employed to do, but the World Cup clock is ticking.

    The World Cup kicks off in precisely 365 days, but it's taken two matches in four days in Barcelona and Nottingham for all the old insecurities about this England team to rise to the surface.

    A first defeat in his fourth match as England manager means 162 days into the job the honeymoon is over for Thomas Tuchel.

    The message from him last night was don't panic, he's promising that it will click during the remaining World Cup qualifiers in the autumn. But this - a first defeat for the England senior men's team against African opposition - was not the kind of history Tuchel was brought in to create.

    Tuchel made 10 changes to his starting line-up from Barcelona. He wanted to see all the outfield players in the squad on the pitch. He wanted to see different things, hence the use of substitute Morgan Rogers as a 'false nine' before Ivan Toney was rather belatedly sent on for the final minutes.

    It'll probably be an England team we never see take to the field together again.

    Honestly, I'm not concerned, and I still think we are amongst the favourites to win the World Cup. This was a friendly at the end of a long, gruelling season, and will have no bearing on how we do next summer. For reference, this was nowhere near as bad as the 4-0 defeat to Hungary in 2022, and we went on to have a good World Cup that year. We also looked great in beating prior to Euro 2016, and look how that turned out. I'll start judging Tuchel from the first game of the tournament next year and not before.

    Tottenham are closing in on appointing Brentford manager Thomas Frank as their new head coach by the weekend.

    On Tuesday it was reported that talks between the clubs are ongoing and have progressed positively amid a growing expectation Frank could even be confirmed in the next 48 hours as Ange Postecoglou's successor.

    Discussions are understood to be amicable and there is a will from all parties to conclude the agreement quickly.

    BBC Sport understands that recently appointed Spurs chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, who only started work last Monday, has been involved in the process of appointing Frank, alongside chairman Daniel Levy

  • Results have 'lacked quality'

    England lost to Senegal on Tuesday night in the first loss under Thomas Tuchel. While the other three games Tuchel has been in charge of have been wins, they haven't all produced magic football.

    England's 1-0 win over Andorra was a lacklustre performance and captain Harry Kane said the team "lacked quality" during that match.

    "We were just lacking quality, we looked a bit fatigued both physically and mentally," Kane said.

    "Yeah, we got away with it because we're a good team and they had a couple of half-chances where we didn't get punished."
