Alas, that's the end of Mitchell Starc's excellent spell.

He's replaced by Josh Hazlewood.

Steve Smith's performance over the last two years has been abysmal and we should hope he plays like that in the Ashes. Maybe we bowl Ollie Pope to him as he only gets out to the part-timers!

I think Australia have been practicing their "ooohing" because they're doing a lot of it today.

This time the cause is an edge from the bat of Wiaan Mulder which falls short of the slip cordon.

South Africa are really just playing for survival against the pace of this bowling.

A seventh over in a row from Mitchell Starc. He's got 2-10.

How long can he keep this spell going?

South Africa and Australia are in the exact same place. They were both 19-2 and Rabada had 2-9 after 6 overs like Starc.

A solitary leg bye from Pat Cummins' latest over.

Who do you think will be the happier captain at the end of day one? Australia were bowled out for 212. South Africa are 20-2 so far.

Mitchell Starc has picked up both of the South Africa wickets to fall and has figures of 2-9 from his six overs.

Bavuma did clear his legs. He managed to somehow shuffle on his heel and slide out the way. That was pitching umpire's call for sliding down the leg.

Mitchell Starc is a very expressive bowler, letting out a big "ooooooooh" as he appeals for lbw and gets nothing back from the umpire.

It's a beautiful inswinging delivery which clatters into Temba Bavuma.

Replays show it would have been umpire's call.

Pigeons stop play! Pat Cummins has to abort his run-up at the start of his second over as a flock of pigeons fly across in front of the umpire.

We had roosters and broccoli-loving chickens earlier. Not at Lord's, to clarify.

This deja vu is absolutely lovely. Australia, if you recall, were also two wickets down inside 10 overs.

It's over to Wiaan Mulder and captain Temba Bavuma to rebuild South Africa's innings.

It's that swing again, full length and Rickelton followed it. That was very nicely taken for Starc and caught by Khawaja.

Mitchell Starc wins the battle between himself and Ryan Rickelton.

Rickelton began the over with a boundary, pouncing on a ball which sat up.

Starc beat the left-hander's bat with the second.

And with the fourth, Rickelton edges it to Usman Khawaja in the slips, who moves across to his right to take an excellent catch.
