Boulter is drawn to the net as a shot clips it and drops just over. She manages to return it but is out of position and Shnaider sweeps a forehand past her. A break point that the Russian gobbles up to secure the double break. She's now serving to make it 1-1.

It is an excellent start as she sends a volley down the line after her first serve before an ace makes it 30-30.

There some more blue sky above as play gets back under way.

Boulter is 30-0 down on her serve, so needs to be on it from the off to avoid another break.

And indeed the players are back out on the court and warming up ahead of the resumption.

We're hearing that the players are due to be back on court at 13:25 BST.

The rain that has been threatening for a while is now fully here and the umpire hops down from his chair and calls it.

Not what you want to see with a packed schedule on Andy Murray Arena.

Oh no. The rain is starting to come down a bit more now. The umpire looks to the sky and then pops down for a touch of the grass. I think we're going to have pause things here.

Boulter is really firing herself up now as she looks to get back into this second set. She produces some good tennis in this game, notably drawing in Shnaider at 40-15 and then flicking a volley to the far side of the court.

However, Shnaider serves well to take the next point and hold.

Some umbrellas and hoods are up in the stands, fingers crossed the threat of rain holds off but it is sunshine on the court for Boulter as she secures the hold to get off the mark in this second set.

What's happening to Boulter's serve? It was near perfect in the first set but she kicks off her service game here with a double fault. The flip-flop in quality continues as she rattles off an ace with her next serve before some good ball striking sees her come out on top of a rally to lead 30-15.

A little fist bump from Boulter as she forces Shnaider into finding the net with a return from an awkward volley.

There's still plenty of work to do with Shnaider 40-15 ahead, and Boulter executes a fine volley into the corner to give her some hope, but then hooks a shot long and Shnaider seals the hold to take control of this second set.

A frustrating one for Boulter as Shnaider breaks for the first time in this match. Boulter had looked on course for a comfortable hold but then has a bit of a wobble and Shnaider takes full advantage.

That first serve is initially looking on point once again as Boulter races 40-0 ahead but then double faults for just the second time in this match. A rally then follows in the next point and there's some groans from the crowd as a volley by Shnaider clips the net and drops just over.

Another double fault and it is deuce. Boulter needs to focus here.

Shnaider needs a bit of a confidence boost after that impressive first set by Boulter and she gets it with a hold to love at the start of this second set.

Boulter works that first serve superbly once again and breezes through this game to seal the first set.
