Seven wickets in the match now for the magnificent Pat Cummins.

Tristan Stubbs gets off the mark with a sliced drive to deep point. As a naturally aggressive player, it might be a good tactic for him to just try and get a quick 20 or 30 to ease the pressure on Markram.

    Finally!

Aiden Markram drives sweetly for South Africa's first boundary. He's still looking to be positive despite Australia's disciplined start.

Josh Hazlewood has been robotically accurate so far.

    It's tense.

Tristan Stubbs is struck on the pad by Hazlewood, but it's probably going down leg and Australia don't review.

Five runs have been scored from the first four overs...

Handy delivery going down the slope, Temba Bavuma had to play it. Standard fast bowler's dismissal.

The Aussies have started really sharply.

What an innings form Bavuma, a brave innings, but he will be bitterly disappointed.

    Bavuma c Carey b Cummins 66 (SA 217-3)

The door is opened... by who else other than Pat Cummins?

Temba Bavuma won't get the fairytale of being there at the end for South Africa as he nibbles outside the off stump and edges through to Alex Carey.

Down the slope, bit of extra bounce, seaming away - delightful bowling from the Aussie captain.

A lovely punch down the ground from Markram, but unfortunately it's chased down by Marnus Labuschagne so a hobbling Temba Bavuma has to sprint back for three.

As metronomic as ever from Josh Hazlewood, who starts with a maiden to Bavuma.

I think Australia will be trying to stop South Africa from getting that first boundary early, and they'll put their meanest bowlers on.

They've got a fairly conservative field, they are just trying to squeeze.

Steve Smith is not on the field for Australia.

A reminder that he dislocated his little finger after dropping Bavuma in the slips yesterday. Don't watch past the first replay if you're squeamish - it's pretty gross.

That'll help settle some nerves, as Temba Bavuma dabs a single into the covers for the first run of the morning.

If you're South Africa, you're thinking about all the possibilities. There is that stress of the past.

  • SA 213-2published at 56.1 overs

Temba Bavuma battled through a hamstring issue throughout his innings yesterday, so he goes through plenty of flicks and kicks and stretches as he makes his way out to the middle with Aiden Markram.

He solidly defends the first ball from Pat Cummins to plenty of cheers from the crowd.

Aiden Markram played fantastically well. He played so well on the back foot and managed Bavuma's innings so well.

A lovely sight - there are big queues outside the gates of Lord's for this fourth and - barring something quite drastic - final day.

Weather-wise, it is sunny with a few clouds but there is little chance of rain this morning.

I'm sure there are plenty of nerves flying around for South Africa and their fans today, despite their position in the game. Last time they were in a final of an ICC tournament, they lost despite needing just 30 from 30 balls.

    Surely not...?

ers attending today's match will be hoping South Africa knock off these 69 runs or, ahem, Australia take eight wickets, in double quick time. If the match is concluded before the start of the 15th over ticket holders get a full refund. If it's between 15.1 and 30 overs they will get a 50% refund.

Markram helps South Africa close in on Test Championship victory

South Africa are favourites, but I think we've seen this one before.

Aiden Markram's sparkling unbeaten century has put them within 69 runs of becoming world Test champions.

The Lord's pitch which saw 28 wickets fall in the first two days flattened on day three, and Markram will resume on 102 this morning with skipper Temba Bavuma, who has 65 in a stand of 143 so far.

But this formidable Aussie bowling attack isn't one to be written off. Eight wickets is the target for Cummins, Starc and co.
